In this episode, I’ll introduce you to some of the people who keep The Ghan running for four days as it makes its way through the harsh Australian terrain.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly so passengers like me can sit back and enjoy the experience.

We’ll meet John Brinkley, the train manager who likes to call himself ‘the mayor of the train’ and he’ll talk about some of the strange things he’s seen and whether he’s ever left anybody behind

And we’ll chat with the train’s technician, Wayne Lehmann, who has the very busy task of fixing any technical problems that pop up during the journey.

It’s an insight into a side of The Ghan that passengers don’t normally see.

Next episode, a very special side trip.

I’ll take you on a scenic plane ride from Alice Springs to Uluru – and we’ll get to explore on the ground, around the rock, and feel why this is the spiritual heart of Australia.

  1. Very true!
What specific area would you recommend?
I am coming to Austalia next month, and am wondering what the best location for me to stay would be.
I am looking to see the city, but don’t really have all that much in mind, just yet. The ideal place would give me a “feel” for the city and its history and be close to the most important tourist attractions.

    • Hi Julie. There are so many places you could visit in Australia. Assuming you are interested in Alice Springs, then you can fly directly there and get a hotel to use as a base to explore the surrounding area. You will need to do another flight or a long drive to get to bigger cities like Darwin or Adelaide. Enjoy!
